The Plateau State Government has issued a stern warning on transportation safety following a fatal accident involving a passenger train and a tricycle in Jos.
The collision, which occurred on Wednesday at the Phototek Junction in the Abattoir community, claimed the lives of a tricycle rider and a passenger. The train was en route from Bukuru to Jos when the tricycle attempted to cross the railway line.
In an official statement on Thursday, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Davou Gyang, expressed the government’s profound sympathy for the victims’ families. He described the event as a “tragic and painful reminder” of the critical need for vigilance at rail crossings.
“We mourn with the families affected by this sad event. It is indeed a painful loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” the commissioner stated.

The ministry confirmed it is collaborating with the Nigerian Railway Corporation and other relevant bodies to investigate the precise cause of the accident. The goal is to establish measures to prevent a recurrence.
Commissioner Gyang directly appealed to all road users, including motorists, tricycle operators, and pedestrians, to strictly obey safety signs and signals at railway crossings. He emphasised that disregarding these rules “endangers lives.”
