The Federal Government has expressed concern on illegal frequencies dotting the Southern part of the country. The Federal Executive Council have approved the sum of N653, 886,584 (654 Million) to purchase and
deploy a hybrid spectrum monitoring system to do qualitative surveillance on the South-Eastern part of the country where illegal frequencies have been reported to be most rampant.

This was disclosed by Issa Pantami, The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy at the 18th Virtual Federal Executive Council meeting presided by President Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

Pantami also disclosed that a prior investigation which surveyed five geopolitical zones; North East, North West, North Central, South West, and South-South revealed that the zones had 106 illegal frequencies out of the 320 discovered ones. He expressed worry about the discovery of the illegal frequencies and noted that on the advice of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the illegal frequencies will be persecuted. He however noted that monitoring of frequencies will be done in the South-East because the zone was not part of the initial survey.
