Mr.Sunday Ehindero, a former Inspector General of Police has explained that the Special Antirobbery Squad (SARS) was not a bad unit but it had been corrupted by ‘bad eggs’. Ehindero said that the activities of a w corrupted cops in the squad helped foster a bad public impression on the unit. Ehidero also supported calls for the reform of the entire Nigeria Police Force.
The former IGP said this recently at the presentation of a memoir of retired Justice Akintan, a retired Chief Judge of the Supreme Court.
‘A bad egg will always corrupt others. So, the unit is not a bad outfit, we only have bad operators in the unit now.’
It can be recalled that Officer Muhammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police banned SARS. He had assured protesters that all their demands will be met. The IGP has announced the emergence of a Special Weapons and Tactics team, SWAT, with wide-ranging assurances on reforms.
