Two popular Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems, have been released. Their release came after they were remanded in police custody for about two days in Uganda.
Video footage showed that they also appeared in court. The Ugandan authorities charged them of “acts that are likely to cause the spread of the infectious disease, COVID-19”. Following their arrest, there were pleas from various quarters under the trending hashtag on Twitter, #FreeTemsandOmahLay. The demand was for their immediate release. Calls from top Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Don Jazzy, and a host of other stakeholders within and outside the entertainment space had helped in facilitating their release.
Fellow Nigerian musician, Mr Eazi, confirmed their release on Twitter. His words: “Pleased to hear that My brothers and sisters are to be released & the case is resolved, Big love to everyone who worked on this.”
