Nigerian comedienne and actress, Anita Alaire Afoke Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin opens up about her suicide attempt in 2018. She recalled that in 2017 and 2018, she and her husband, Ikechukwu owed a huge amount of debt amongst other challenges.
After making an attempt to take her own life in 2018 without succeeding, she felt inspired to put out content with positive messages to encourage other people who were experiencing similar challenges.
According to her, “In 2017/2018 my husband and I had financial issues. We were in debt and everything, so when I attempted suicide I’m June 6, 2018, I didn’t die. They took me to about three different hospitals but in the last hospital when I woke up, I wondered why I didn’t die. I said God, you see his my story, I will use it to help others.”
The mother of three further explained that, her goal for making her videos were not to make people laugh but to motivate them amidst their struggles and to heal from her pain. “All the videos wey I dey do that time, no be comedy to make people laugh o, na to motivate people say, Area! Even though you dey owe debt, no worry, Federal government dey owe debt. No kill yourself. Take one step at a time. Problems must come. I think those things helped me heal like things wey I supposed to myself I go come dey tell [others]. Then I never pay the debt finish o. I go still go cry, come do video.”
The actress shared that she was happy to have received positive reports from people whose lives were saved through her videos.
