Tinubu Lauds Jonathan’s Sunhak Peace Prize Achievement

The Journal Nigeria March 25, 2025

Mohamed Garba

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to former President Goodluck Jonathan on being honoured with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize Founders’ Award. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to peace and democracy, highlighting his global recognition as a testament to his patriotic endeavours.

Dr. Jonathan’s receipt of the Sunhak Peace Prize affirms his courageous efforts in peacebuilding and the promotion of democracy across Africa and beyond,” the statement read. President Tinubu also reminisced about Jonathan’s historic concession in the 2015 presidential election, noting that his peaceful transfer of power to an opposition party significantly enhanced Nigeria’s democratic reputation abroad.

The Sunhak Peace Prize, established in 2015, biennially honours individuals and organizations making substantial contributions to global peace and development, focusing on sustainable human development, conflict resolution, and environmental conservation. The 2025 award ceremony is scheduled for April 11, 2025, at the Lotte Hotel in Jamsil, Seoul, South Korea, where each laureate will receive a cash prize of $200,000, along with a medal and a plaque.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for acknowledging the efforts of those striving to improve the world, celebrating this landmark achievement alongside former President Jonathan.
