The designation of Ebonyi as one of Nigeria’s Export Processing Zones has propelled the Ebonyi state government to apportion a parcel of land to the Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA) for the execution of projects.
The Governor of Ebonyi state, Gov. Dave Umahi, handed the letter of allocation to Prof. Adosoji Adasugba, the Managing Director of the Authority in Abakaliki, today. Governor Umahi expressed great optimism on the growth and employment opportunities that will come into play by through the execution of the project.
The Governor in his statement said, ‘We hope that the project when completed, will stimulate the economy of the state and generate employment for our youths.’
Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, Deputy of Gov. Dave Umahi, relayed the Governor’s commitment to bring about development in the state. The Deputy Governor also explained that the Governor’s administration is ready to explore available and accessible opportunities in the state.
He, however, urged the Federal Government to step up actions in the implementation of the project for the benefit of the people.

NEPZA’ MD, Prof. Adesugba, disclosed that NEPZA was entrusted with the responsibility of establishing, licensing, regulating, and operating efficient zones by making provisions for competitive incentive schemes, excellent support facilities, and service.
He also added that the authority was mandated to create a suitable environment for export, manufacturing, and other commercial activities to grow.
He buttressed that, ‘The export processing zone will engender economic growth and enhance export, manufacturing, economic and commercial activities in the state.’
In addition, Prof. Adesugba said, ‘We are hopeful that the state will maximise fully the economic potential that will open up by the NEPZA.
