Adetoun Adediran, the First Female Deputy Speaker in Lagos is Dead

Adetoun Adediran, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Lagos State is reported to have passed earlier today, Wednesday 5 of January, 2022 after suffering a brief illness.

Adetoun Adediran was reportedly sick for about two days before passing this morning.

She was elected the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Lagos State in the 4th inauguration of the Lagos State House of Assembly, which was installed on June 2, 1999, and lasted until May 30, 2003. She was the first female to ever be elected into that position. She was representing the Surulere Constituency at the time.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Youth and Student Council appointed her as the National Women Leader in 2021. Her position was intended to aid the party in building a strong support for the party come the general election of 2023. She also held the position of the state women leader, women leader South-West division and the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC) chairperson.
