BUA Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu To Honour $500,000 Super Eagles Pledge Despite AFCON Exit
Billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has confirmed that he will fulfil his $500,000 pledge to Nigeria’s Super Eagles despite the team’s failure to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Rabiu made the announcement on Thursday via a message shared on his official Instagram page, where he commended the national team for their resilience, courage, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
Praising the players for their commitment and effort on the pitch, Rabiu said the team’s performance, although falling short of the ultimate prize, had made Nigerians proud.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.
The BUA chairman further reflected on the unpredictable nature of sports, noting that results do not always reflect effort or dedication. According to him, the passion, unity, and determination displayed by the Super Eagles were the true measures of success.
“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” Rabiu added.

As a gesture of appreciation, Rabiu confirmed that he would still honour the $500,000 cash reward earlier promised to the team. He described the pledge as recognition of the players’ hard work, dedication, and the excitement they brought to millions of Nigerians during the tournament.
It would be recalled that Rabiu had announced the financial incentive ahead of the competition as part of efforts to motivate the Super Eagles in their pursuit of continental glory.
Nigeria’s campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ended at the semi-final stage after a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to host nation Morocco, following a tense 0–0 draw at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Despite the setback, the Super Eagles earned widespread praise for their performance at the tournament, with Rabiu urging the players to remain focused and optimistic about the future.
He expressed confidence that the experience gained would serve as a foundation for greater achievements in upcoming international competitions.
