Canada Mass Shooting: Nine Killed, 27 Injured in British Columbia School Attack
Nine people have been killed and 27 others injured following a mass shooting in Canada that struck a secondary school and a nearby residence in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the attack occurred Tuesday afternoon at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in the remote mountain town. Six victims were found dead inside the school, while a seventh died from gunshot wounds while being transported to hospital. Police later discovered two additional bodies at a residence believed to be connected to the incident.
Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter was found dead at the school with what appears to be a self-inflicted injury. The RCMP has not released the identity, age, or further details about the suspect or victims as investigations continue.
In total, 27 people sustained injuries, including two in serious condition and 25 with non-life-threatening wounds.
Prime Minister Mark Carney described the attack as “horrific acts of violence” and suspended plans to attend the Munich Security Conference in order to remain in Canada. British Columbia Premier David Eby also condemned the violence, calling it “unimaginable.”
Tumbler Ridge, a community of roughly 2,400 residents located over 1,100 kilometres north of Vancouver, has been left reeling. The municipality expressed devastation over the loss of life and the profound impact on families, students, and staff.
Mass shootings remain rare in Canada, intensifying national shock over the tragedy. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
