In an exclusive interview granted to Channels TV on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari has said whenever he hears the word “PDP”; what comes to his mind is “failure”.
One of the interviewers, Maupe Ogun, told the President “all we are going to ask you to do is that for these last words tell us what comes to mind, maybe in one sentence or two”.
The first teaser was his opinion on Nigeria’s young people.
Responding, the president said; “I wish when they go to school, when they work hard, when they have a degree, they don’t do it thinking government must give them a job, You get educated because an educated person is certainly better than an uneducated one. Even in identifying personal problems. So, education is not just to hang on to government to give you job. And what the colonials indoctrinated on, to have a car, to have a house, and to start work at 8 O’Clock and close at 2 O’Clock”
The second interviewer, Seun Okinbaloye, in a follow-up asked, “Another word, another phrase is PDP, what comes to mind?”
Without mincing words, the president in a terse response said; “PDP? Failure!”.
When quizzed about the possibility of exploring political solutions to the case of IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu, Buhari was skeptical about the possibility and he replied that he would not like to interfere with the work of the Judiciary and that Kanu must be ready to face the consequences of his economic and political misdeeds against Nigeria.
When asked about how inflation, unemployment and cost of living indices has skyrocketed under his rule, Buhari was doubtful of the statistics reeled out by the interviewers and evaded the questions, instead talking about how Farming and Agriculture reforms his administration is championing will be the solution to Nigerian Economic woes.
On the China Loans, Buhari maintained “China is Welcome” and said the borrowings are in order as long as they are channeled towards Infrastructural development.
He was also asked about the deteriorating state of security in the nation and he urged Nigerians to be patient and supportive of the efforts of the security forces in their duty.
On the 2023 elections, Buhari expressed confidence in INEC and declared that he has no favorite successor in mind. When pressed further, he replied that even if he has a favorite candidate, he won’t reveal it now so as not to endanger the individual.
Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media has stated that the President will also feature in another interview on Thursday 6th January to be conducted by NTA to be aired by 8pm.
