Security has been significantly tightened across Borno State as part of enhanced Christmas security arrangements aimed at protecting residents and visitors during the festive period.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Borno State Police Command said it had activated additional security measures following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid. According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit has been deployed to carry out routine safety checks across key public locations.
The police explained that officers of the EOD unit are conducting sweeping and scanning of persons and vehicles at churches, worship centres, and recreational facilities across the state. The move, the command said, is part of proactive efforts to prevent threats and ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration, especially in areas expected to record high human traffic.
The command urged residents to remain alert throughout the festive season and to report any suspicious individuals, movements, or objects to the nearest police station or through the designated emergency contact lines. According to the police, public cooperation remains critical to the success of the Christmas security operations.
The heightened security follows a recent attack on December 24, when a suicide bombing at a mosque claimed at least five lives, raising concerns about possible further incidents. In response to the incident, the police said they had scaled up deployments across the state.
As part of the Christmas security plan, over 1,000 police personnel have been mobilised to provide continuous protection across Borno State, with officers assigned to strategic locations to ensure the safety of residents and visitors throughout the holiday period.
