Court Orders Three Independent DNA Tests to Resolve Mohbad’s Paternity Case

A fresh development in the ongoing family dispute over the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam, has emerged from the Ikorodu High Court, which has ordered three independent DNA tests to determine the biological father. This ruling comes after a series of complications surrounding the DNA testing process that had hindered the resolution of the case.

The court’s decision was made following a contentious discussion about the integrity of the initial DNA testing process. Mr. Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, and his legal representative, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe, were present at the court for the proceedings. According to Barrister Ogungbe, the first suggestion for a DNA test facility, proposed by a welfare officer, was dismissed due to the facility’s inability to conduct tissue-based testing, a requirement for accurate paternity analysis.

“We were considering a third-party facility, and all of this was reported to the court,” Barrister Ogungbe explained. “The initial suggestion from the welfare officer turned out to be a dead end. The suggested facility was local and could not carry out the necessary tissue-based test for accurate results.”

In response, the court acknowledged the importance of maintaining the process’s integrity and suggested an alternative approach. The solution was to select three facilities outside Nigeria, ensuring a high level of transparency and objectivity in the process. The court agreed that each side of the dispute would propose one facility, while the court itself would choose the third. The tests will be tissue-based, allowing for clear identification of any foul play should there be discrepancies in the results.

“The three results must show the same outcome,” Barrister Ogungbe stated, emphasizing that the decision was made to prevent any future doubts about the test’s authenticity. “This is exactly what we’ve been pushing for from day one. It shows we have nothing to hide.”

Both parties, Mohbad’s father and the widow, Wunmi, have been at odds over the DNA testing issue. While Wunmi insists that Liam is Mohbad’s biological child, she has expressed frustration over the delays caused by the insistence on further DNA tests. Her focus has always been on ensuring justice for her late husband and securing the welfare of their son.

The legal battle has garnered significant attention from the public, particularly since the sudden death of the singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba (better known as Mohbad), on 12 September 2023. His untimely passing, followed by the exhumation of his body on 21 September 2023 as part of the ongoing investigation into his death, has led to widespread media coverage and social media debates. A significant portion of these discussions has revolved around Mohbad’s estate, his family’s intentions, and the dispute over Liam’s paternity.

The new ruling requiring the three independent DNA tests is expected to put the matter to rest once and for all, with Barrister Ogungbe asserting that the results should conclusively resolve the issue. “Once one result contradicts the others, we will know clearly if there has been foul play,” he concluded.

Mohbad’s father has expressed his satisfaction with the latest court decision, indicating that he is open to the testing process. “I don’t have anything to say. I am pleased that we will have three places. It is okay by me,” he commented, signaling his acceptance of the arrangement.
