A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has said  that the incumbent Governor of state, Kayode Fayemi is committed to creating a level playing field for all the aspirants.

He said the governor has always been a strong advocate for internal democracy in political parties, hence he won’t be rooting for any of the aspirants or candidate whether covertly or overtly.

The Senator who made this known at the weekend in Lagos said his relationship with the governor is very cordial and that he has already discussed his intention with him; adding that the Governor can vouch for his competence and capacity to deliver as the next governor of the state.

Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central in the National Assembly, had recently obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms and is expected to make a declaration of his intention in Ekiti on Thursday.

The senator who was Fayemi’s campaign director-general during the 2018 election, said the governor is committed to the unity of the party and would not take sides with any aspirant.

So far two members of Fayemi’s government have resigned and joined the governorship race, the include Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr Bamidele Faparusi, and the Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji.

The election is scheduled to take place  on June 18, 2022.
