Gombe IGR Jumps 500% To N40bn Under Governor Yahaya
Gombe State has recorded a historic surge in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), rising from N6.8bn in 2019 to an all-time high of N40.8bn in 2025 under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.
The latest figures represent nearly a 500 per cent increase over six years and almost double the N20.7bn generated in 2024. The state also exceeded its 2025 revenue target of N25.7bn by an impressive 158 per cent.
The breakthrough was disclosed on Sunday by the Chairman of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, Aisha Adamu, who attributed the growth to deliberate reforms, improved revenue systems, and strong political backing from the Yahaya-led government.
Adamu said revenue growth accelerated following her appointment in 2023, noting that collections rose steadily from N15.18bn in 2023 to N20.72bn in 2024 before crossing the N40bn mark in 2025.
She explained that the surge reflects expanded tax coverage, improved compliance, and strengthened collection mechanisms across the state.
According to her, the revenue windfall positions Gombe to significantly boost infrastructure development, improve public service delivery, and fund critical social projects that directly impact residents.
Adamu expressed optimism that the state would build on the gains in 2026, citing continued government support and cooperation from taxpayers as key drivers of sustained growth.
