Kano Governor Meets Tinubu, Seeks Federal Backing For Security And Mega Projects
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has held a strategic meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he sought federal support to address rising security challenges and advance major infrastructure projects in the state.
The closed-door meeting, held on Monday, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Kano State Government and the Federal Government in the areas of security, development, and economic growth.
Details of the meeting were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, who said Governor Yusuf formally briefed the President on pressing challenges and opportunities confronting Kano State.

According to the statement, the governor raised serious concerns over worsening insecurity in some local government areas, citing the recent killing of a housewife and her children as a tragic example of the growing threat to innocent citizens.
Yusuf stressed the need for decisive federal intervention to reinforce security operations in the state, noting that while Kano has taken steps to address the situation, deeper collaboration with federal security agencies remains critical.
He highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies and called for enhanced cooperation, intelligence sharing, and operational support from federal institutions.

Beyond security, the governor also outlined his administration’s development agenda, with a strong emphasis on mega infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic activities, creating jobs, and improving living standards for residents.
Yusuf used the opportunity to commend President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing the project as a vital infrastructure investment capable of unlocking economic growth and improving connectivity.
“He sought the President’s support and cooperation to fast-track federal projects and ensure Kano benefits maximally from federal programmes and investments,” the statement added.
The meeting comes amid speculation over Governor Yusuf’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following recent comments by the Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who suggested the governor may soon receive an APC electronic membership card upon his return from Abuja.
However, the statement issued by the Kano State Government focused strictly on governance, security, and development discussions, without reference to party politics.
President Tinubu, according to the statement, assured Governor Yusuf of the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with Kano State to address security concerns and drive sustainable development across the state.
