Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has unequivocally dismissed mounting speculation linking him to the Manchester City managerial position, labelling the rumors as baseless.
Recent reports had suggested Maresca, a former assistant to City boss Pep Guardiola, could be a candidate to succeed his mentor at the Etihad Stadium. The 45-year-old Italian, however, moved to quash the narrative ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League fixture this weekend.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Maresca stated the speculation was “100%” unfounded. “It doesn’t affect me because I know it is 100% speculation and I don’t have time for these things,” he said, as reported by BBC Sport.
The manager emphasized his long-term commitment to Chelsea, where he is under contract until 2029. “I have a contract here until 2029. My focus is just on this club, and I am proud to be here,” Maresca affirmed.
He noted a similar pattern of rumors last week regarding the Juventus vacancy, indicating he pays little attention to such external noise. “It’s important to understand why this news was there, but it is just speculation,” Maresca added, shifting focus to Chelsea’s immediate challenge. “The Newcastle game is important and very difficult.”
Maresca’s comments serve to reaffirm his dedication to Chelsea’s current project. The Blues, currently fourth in the Premier League table, face a tough away match against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday 12:30 pm.
