The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has named Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji as its new Public Relations Officer, marking the first time a woman will hold the position.
Controller General Sylvester Nwakuche announced the appointment in a statement issued by Deputy Controller General Ado Sale on Monday in Abuja.
Nwakuche described Osuji as bringing “extensive experience and unwavering dedication” to enhance the Service’s public communication efforts.
She replaces Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025.

She joined the Service in 2009 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons and has completed specialised training, including the Internal Security/Low Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Her previous roles include Assistant PRO in the Lagos State and FCT Commands, Assistant National PRO at headquarters, and Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023.
Reacting to the appointment, Osuji expressed honour at the opportunity and pledged to strengthen the Service’s communication framework while deepening public engagement.
The NCoS manages over 240 custodial and non-custodial facilities nationwide, with a mandate that includes safe custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders.
