In a gesture of remembrance and support, the 4th Brigade Command in Benin organized a special Christmas luncheon and gift presentation for the families of soldiers who died in the line of duty.
The event, held on Friday, was led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Ahmed Balogun, and the Chief Medical Director of the Military Hospital in Benin, Brigadier-General Paulina Aburime. They distributed food items and monetary gifts to 50 widows and six representatives of soldiers’ wives.
Brig.-Gen. Balogun stated that the initiative was to honor the sacrifices made by the fallen soldiers and to assure their families that the Army continues to stand with them.
“While many celebrate this season, we remember that some among us have paid the supreme price through their husbands,” he said. “Though they are no longer here, the Army is here with you. We recognize your loss and value your enduring sacrifice.”
He emphasized that the outreach reflects the welfare-focused philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja, and pledged to extend similar support during other festive periods like Ramadan and Sallah.
Brig.-Gen. Aburime commended the initiative, urging the military community to uphold unity and mutual care. She highlighted the Army’s commitment to celebrating all personnel and their families, irrespective of faith.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support. One of the widows, Mrs. Queen Obazuwa, thanked the command while appealing for the continuity of such assistance.
The luncheon served as a reminder of the Army’s commitment to the welfare of the families left behind by its fallen heroes.
