Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been released from police custody following a two-day detention linked to her social media posts about Lagos-based pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry.
Ogala, 37, was arrested on Saturday during a live-streamed interview after she posted and later deleted an image appearing to show the pastor shirtless with a towel wrapped around his waist in a bedroom setting. The actress captioned the post: “This is his bedroom after making love. Full video dropping soon.”
The arrest stemmed from allegations by Pastor Okafor that Ogala violated his privacy. Prior to her detention, Ogala had publicly accused the cleric of betraying her after a nine-year relationship, claiming he reneged on a promise of marriage and instead married another woman.
In a series of Instagram posts celebrating her release, Ogala thanked human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and online commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for their roles in securing her freedom.
“These are my guys. We are out of the Zone 2 police station. Thank you to my president, Sowore. Thanks so much to my ratel king, VDM,” she wrote.
The actress has also taken legal steps against Okafor. Through her lawyers, she issued a 21-day ultimatum demanding the payment of ₦1 billion in damages, failing which she vowed to pursue court action. In the legal notice, her attorneys described the case as a “failed marriage claim” resulting from the breakdown of the nine-year relationship.
Ogala is seeking aggravated and general damages for what she claims are severe emotional, psychological, and reputational injuries caused by the pastor’s alleged conduct and the public fallout from their separation.
As of now, Pastor Chris Okafor has not issued a public response to Ogala’s latest statements or the legal notice.
