President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos State to spend the end-of-year holidays, concluding a scheduled three-state domestic tour that included official visits to Borno and Bauchi states. His arrival marks a return to Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and his longstanding political base, where he is set to partake in a key cultural event honouring late family members and former leaders.
The President departed Abuja on Saturday, December 20, 2025, beginning his engagements in Borno State. There, he commissioned development projects executed by the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum in collaboration with the Federal Government. He also attended the high-profile wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, the son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
From Maiduguri, President Tinubu travelled to Bauchi State to offer condolences. He visited the state government and the family of the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a renowned Islamic cleric and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood who passed away on November 27.
Upon his arrival in Lagos, the President was welcomed by the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who began his political career as a Special Adviser to then-Governor Bola Tinubu in 2003, has a long-standing political and professional relationship with the President.
Among his primary engagements in Lagos is his scheduled role as the Guest of Honour at the Eyo Festival on Saturday, December 27. The event, to be held at the historic Tafawa Balewa Square, holds significant personal and political symbolism. The festival will specifically honour three prominent late figures: Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the President’s late mother; Alhaji Lateef Jakande, first civilian governor of Lagos State; and Chief Michael Otedola, former governor of Lagos State.
The choice of honourees connects President Tinubu’s family lineage to the legacy of past Lagos State administrators, situating his personal history within the broader narrative of the state’s governance.
President Tinubu’s holiday in Lagos is more than a private visit; it is a return to the city where he served as governor from 1999 to 2007 and built the political foundation that propelled him to the presidency.
