President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Lagos on Sunday evening to commence his scheduled end-of-year break in Europe, his office has confirmed.
The trip, however, will include significant official duties. According to a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will travel from Europe to the United Arab Emirates in early January.
He has accepted a personal invitation from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit.
The high-level summit, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” convenes global leaders from government, business, and civil society to advance sustainable development initiatives. The forum aims to link ambition with actionable strategies across innovation, finance, and social inclusion.
“The weeklong event brings together leaders from government, business, and society to shape the future of sustainable development,” Onanuga stated. “ADSW 2026 will demonstrate how the world can progress with confidence.”
President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria following the conclusion of the summit. No further details were provided regarding the European segment of his trip or the exact duration of his stay abroad.
