Sanwo-Olu Visits Magodo Estate

Andrew Agbokhaode January 4, 2022

Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-olu visited the residents of Magodo estate today to address the issue of the policemen who were occupying the estate.

The increased police presence in the estate caused the residents to organize a protest this morning, which led to both gates being shut with entry and exit being largely prevented.

The Governor personally stepped in to address the situation, in a dialogue between the Governor and the leader of the police contingents, he gave a directive that the latter communicate with his superiors and disengage their activities in the estate.

“Please can you call your superior in Abuja, and tell them that the governor is here and I am the Chief Security Officer, and that you that you don’t have any business being in my state right now and that I want you to disengage forthwith…” said Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Governor in addressing the residents of Magodo stated that it was due to all the misinformation and lack of proper information that he had to take up the assignment himself. He referenced the first attempt and how the situation was remedied at the time, and stated that channels of communication were opened in the midst of the festive period with those involved. He stated that in discussions held with the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General, all issues were resolved.

Peace Parley to Hold on Wednesday 5th January
He assured the residents that following this resolution there would be a total stand down, and that the representatives of the judgment creditors are officially invited to the Governor’s office on 5th January by 11am.

He confirmed that the State Government would be there along with the Magodo Residents Association and the Nigerian Police Force. The aim is for all parties to bare their grievances and for them to arrive at an amicable solution.

He charged all parties to maintain the peace and return to their lawful businesses and activities, pending when the conversation is held and everything is brought to a final closure. He said the police men have been called back and nothing will happen from their end. They will be withdrawn tomorrow.

He assured that no houses would be marked henceforth, and that he would ensure that the estate remains peaceful and safe for all the residents.

It was also reported that about 12 individuals were arrested earlier in the day, and their release has already been ordered by the Commissioner of Police.
