In a Boxing Day event at his Ukana country home in Akwa Ibom State, Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented ten motorized fishing boats to women and cooperative groups from the state’s southern senatorial district.
The donation, announced by his media office on Saturday, is part of his constituency development projects. Beneficiaries were selected from riverine communities where fishing is a primary livelihood.
Each boat is outfitted with fishing nets, a refrigerator, and additional fuel tanks. Larger vessels feature dual 75-horsepower engines, while smaller ones have 40-horsepower engines.
Dr. (Mrs.) Ekaette Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, thanked her husband for supporting women in the coastal regions. She noted that while the recipients are from the Eket district, her husband serves all Nigerians in his national role.
During the presentation, Senator Akpabio commended the women for their consistent support. “I can never forget your love, your prayers, and your support,” he stated.
He also framed the donation as a political call to action, encouraging recipients to be “fishers of men” for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections. He urged support for President Bola Tinubu and praised Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for his administration’s focus on human capital development.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mma Nkoyo Isong expressed gratitude for the empowerment, pledging continued support for the Senate President and his party.
The event featured a symbolic presentation of a portion of the boats, with Senator Akpabio reading out the full list of individual and cooperative beneficiaries.
