WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Timetable

The West African Examinations Council has published the official timetable for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates, setting the stage for one of the region’s most consequential secondary school assessments.

According to the final international timetable posted on WAEC’s official X handle on Monday, the examination will commence on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and conclude on Friday, June 19, 2026. The council indicated that the opening session will feature the Foods and Nutrition 3 (Practical) Planning Session and the Home Management 3 (Practical) Planning Session.

WASSCE serves as a critical qualification that secondary school students must pass to gain admission into university and other tertiary institutions across the subregion. The examination covers core subjects such as English Language and Mathematics, alongside a wide range of elective papers in the sciences, arts, humanities, and vocational and technical areas.

The assessment takes place across WAEC’s member countries, which include Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia. The release of the timetable follows the council’s standard practice of publishing examination schedules several months in advance to allow schools and candidates adequate preparation time.

Candidates are advised to consult the full timetable on WAEC’s official communication channels for specific subject dates and times. The council has also reminded schools to adhere strictly to the published schedule, as any deviations may attract penalties under the examination regulations.

The 2026 edition of the examination comes amid ongoing discussions about educational standards and assessment integrity in the subregion. WAEC has consistently maintained that it conducts the examination in line with established protocols to ensure fairness and credibility.
