War Against Drug Abuse: NDLEA, NSCDC Renew Partnership

Opeyemi Akinbobola January 7, 2022

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) alongside with the Nigeria Security and Defence Corps (NSCDC) have decided to recreate and strengthen their  partnership in various areas; specially for the operation of fighting against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

According to the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the renewal of partnership followed the visit of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi to the NDLEA national headquarters in Abuja.

This commitment to recreate synergy in partnership by the two agencies, was drawn out from the courtesy visit of Audi to the Chief Executive Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd) at the anti-drug agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 6th January.

In his remarks, Abubakar noted that the NDLEA chairman had transformed the anti-drug agency within a short period of time and on that regard, he had paid a visit to extract from the knowledge and experience of Marwa.

The Commandant General made a request for synergy and collaboration between the two agencies, adding that he has been a continuous follower of Marwa’s achievements and antecedents in public service since he was still a student.

In response to Abubakar, Marwa laud the NSCDC boss for bringing to bear his experience and intellectual capacity for an effective performance on the work of the Corps.

He also stated that all that has been achieved in the past years by the NDLEA was largely by God’s grace, as well as the commitment of the officers and men of the agency.

He noted that the NDLEA will love to bring the compounding problem of drug abuse under control as quick as possible because of its negative effect on the public health and national security.

As such, the Marwa stated that the NDLEA will like to call for a renewal of partnership with the Civil Defence Agency; in order to combat crime in communities and in the country at large.

“With your visible physical presence in the grassroots, we’ll work with you in our drug demand and drug supply control efforts.” The NDLEA Chairman said.

Beforehand, the leadership of Global Peace Advocacy and Empowerment Initiative led by Ambassador Sadiq Badamasi Ibrahim also visited the NDLEA Chairman to sought for partnership with the Agency, on the movement for anti-drug advocacy campaigns across the country.

They also awarded Marwa, the 2021 Man of the Year among other recognitions.
