Former Super Eagles midfielder, Edema Fuludu, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to fulfill all promises made to the Super Falcons following their remarkable victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in a telephone interview with The Journal Nigeria, Fuludu expressed hope that the President would deliver on his commitments to the players, who made the nation proud by clinching a record tenth continental title.
Recalling his experience as part of the 1994 Super Eagles squad, Fuludu noted that similar promises made to his team were only honored two decades later.
He urged President Tinubu to break that cycle by promptly rewarding the Super Falcons as promised.
“I believe President Tinubu will set a new standard by fulfilling all promises made to the Super Falcons after their historic victory,” he said.
Commenting on the team’s performance, Fuludu praised the Falcons’ resilience and fighting spirit, especially their dramatic comeback after trailing 2-0 in the first half of the final match.
He described the turnaround as a testament to their determination and strength.
“Winning the title for the tenth time confirms that the Super Falcons are truly the giants of African women’s football,” Fuludu added.
President Tinubu had earlier hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where team captain Rasheedat Ajibade presented the trophy to him. In appreciation of their achievement, the President awarded each player a national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a $100,000 cash reward, and a three-bedroom apartment.
