In a strong show of political unity, all 22 governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made Thursday by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), during the APC National Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. Themed Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far, the summit brought together key figures from across the party’s leadership.
Uzodimma formally moved the motion for Tinubu’s endorsement, which was immediately seconded by the PGF Vice Chairman, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State. The motion was passed through a voice vote and met with a standing ovation from attendees, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly, current and former governors, and party stalwarts from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The endorsement signals growing momentum for Tinubu’s re-election campaign and reflects increasing cohesion within the ruling party’s ranks. It also follows a similar declaration just five days earlier by APC leaders from the Northwest region, further cementing Tinubu’s frontrunner status within the party.
While the official campaign season remains distant, the APC’s early backing of Tinubu suggests a strategic effort to consolidate support and limit internal divisions ahead of 2027.
President Tinubu, who was elected in 2023 after a tightly contested race, has framed his administration around the Renewed Hope Agenda, promising reforms across the economy, security, and governance. Thursday’s endorsement underscores the party’s confidence in his leadership and sets the stage for what could be a smoother path to the APC ticket in 2027.
Party insiders say the early endorsement may also serve to discourage potential challengers within the APC and focus energy on national governance and party unity.
With three years to go, the political road ahead remains long, but Thursday’s declaration marks a significant early milestone in Nigeria’s evolving 2027 political landscape.
