2023: Ebonyi Elders Council Backs Gov. Umahi For President

The Ebonyi State Council of Elders has endorsed Governor David Umahi as the right man to become president of Nigeria coming 2023.

The council, which is composed of senior traditional rulers, elder statesmen and politicians across party lines, made their position known to journalists on Tuesday at a press briefing in Abakaliki, the state capital.

According to the Chairman of the council, Benjamin Okah, the governor has earned the endorsement and support of both the council and the people of the state through his feat in governance and philosophy of national unity.

Okah, said, “We have deemed it expedient and most important to present His Excellency, David Nweze Umahi, to the people of Nigeria for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 2023.

“We make this statement confidently bearing in mind his track record, his belief in the oneness of Nigeria, his detribalised disposition on national issues.”

“Umahi’s achievements in the areas of agriculture, education, commerce and industry, infrastructure, and human capital development, distinguished him for consideration as President of Nigeria, come 2023.”

Since his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly because of the unwillingness of his former party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to cede its 2023 presidential ticket to the Southeast, Governor Umahi has become a key figure in the southeast in the APC’s calculation to retain power beyond 2023 with some observers expecting him contest for the party’s presidential candidate.
