In a major breakthrough, the Sokoto Police Command has dismantled a notorious theft syndicate, arresting five suspects and recovering a stash of stolen goods. The operation, which began on January 17, 2025, was sparked by a report from Ladan Muhammad, Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission in Sokoto, who claimed that his office had been burgled.
According to DSP Ahmad Rufai, Police Command spokesperson, the criminal syndicate was busted after a thorough investigation. Mishabahu Auwal, a guard at the office, was found to have conspired with Ismaila Ahmad and others to steal the items, which included three KVA inverters, three 600 KVA inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand new tire, and a 32-inch LG television.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, who were found to be concealing the stolen properties. Three others – Basiru Lawali, Murtala Tijani, and Abubakar Umar – were arrested as receivers of the stolen goods. All exhibits were recovered, and the suspects will face diligent prosecution, according to Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa.
