North-Central APC Forum Spurns Coalition with North-East, North-West Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Journal Nigeria February 3, 2025

Mohamed Garba

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has declared its intention to go it alone in the 2027 general elections, rejecting a potential coalition with the North-East and North-West zones.

This decision comes amidst rumors of a planned coalition between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Citing past experiences, the North-Central APC Forum expressed disappointment at being marginalized by the North-East and North-West during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, despite playing a pivotal role in the coalition that formed the APC in 2015.

The Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, emphasized that the North-Central zone will not be part of any coalition that includes the North-East and North-West.The Forum expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s administration, predicting that Nigerians will re-elect the APC government in 2027 due to its impressive performance. This move is seen as a strategic decision to assert the North-Central zone’s influence and interests in the upcoming elections.
