Bauchi Fortifies Borders: Governor Launches Operation ‘Safe Haven’ to Tackle Rising Insecurity

The Journal Nigeria February 28, 2025

Mohamed Garba

In response to the escalating security challenges in the region, the Bauchi State Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to strengthen border security and protect its citizens. Governor Bala Mohammed announced the launch of Operation ‘Safe Haven,’ a robust security initiative aimed at safeguarding the state’s borders and combating rising insecurity.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Baba Tela, during the launch ceremony, emphasized the need for a proactive approach to addressing the security concerns in the state. “The safety of our people is paramount, and we will stop at nothing to ensure that our borders are secure and our citizens are protected,” he said.

As part of the Operation ‘Safe Haven’ initiative, the state government will deploy a combined team of security personnel, including the military, police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to man the borders and prevent the influx of criminals and bandits.

The governor also announced the establishment of a Border Security Task Force, which will be responsible for coordinating the security efforts and ensuring the effective implementation of the operation. The task force will comprise representatives from the various security agencies, as well as traditional leaders and community representatives.

The launch of Operation ‘Safe Haven’ is a welcome development for the people of Bauchi State, who have been living in fear of bandits and kidnappers. The operation is expected to bring relief to the affected communities and restore confidence in the government’s ability to protect its citizens.

As the security situation in the region continues to evolve, the Bauchi State Government remains committed to exploring innovative solutions to address the challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of its people.
