Gombe Police Nab 25 Suspects in Brutal Attack on Divisional Officer; Command Vows Justice

The Journal Nigeria May 21, 2025

Gombe State Police Command has arrested 25 individuals linked to a violent assault on CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwadon Division, during a brazen attack by suspected miscreants on Tuesday.
Authorities have pledged zero tolerance for attacks on law enforcement as the officer battles serious injuries.

The Gombe State Police Command confirmed Wednesday the arrest of 25 suspects following a coordinated tactical operation in response to the brutal assault on CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi.
The senior officer was attacked on Tuesday by a group of alleged miscreants, locally referred to as Kalare, while conducting official duties in Kwadon town.

According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the DPO sustained severe injuries, including a deep forehead wound, and remains hospitalized at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. A distress call received around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday prompted the immediate deployment of the Operation Hattara patrol team, led by CSP Ali Madaki, to Kwadon.

“The Command strongly condemns this attack and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring justice,” Abdullahi stated, adding that all 25 suspects—residents of Kwadon—are in custody undergoing “discreet investigation” before prosecution.

Commissioner of Police CP Bello Yahaya and the Deputy Commissioner of Operations visited Kwadon to assess the situation, console officers, and reassure the community of intensified efforts to curb criminality. “The era of attacking security personnel with impunity is over,” Abdullahi emphasized, warning that perpetrators of violence against officers would face the “full weight of the law.”

The attack has heightened tensions in the region, where clashes between youth groups and security forces occasionally erupt. The Kalare, often linked to gang-related activities, have previously been implicated in public disturbances.

Abdullahi called on Gombe residents to remain law-abiding and support ongoing investigations. “We will not compromise in tackling threats to public peace,” he asserted, announcing the Command’s resolve to protect officers and maintain order.

As CSP Alhaji-Idi recovers, the arrests mark a decisive step in Gombe’s crackdown on violence targeting law enforcement. The case has reignited debates over youth unrest and security measures in the state, with many awaiting the judiciary’s next moves.
