Kano, EU Forge Strategic Partnership for Education, Green Energy Advancement

The Journal Nigeria June 3, 2025

Mohamed Garba

The Kano State Government is poised to significantly strengthen its collaboration with the European Union, focusing on pivotal areas such as education and renewable energy, alongside other sectors crucial for human development. This commitment was reaffirmed on Tuesday by Governor Abba Yusuf during a meeting with the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, at the Government House in Kano.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf extended his gratitude to the EU for selecting Kano as the host for the inaugural “Study in Europe Fair” on the African continent. He hailed this decision as a clear indicator of the EU’s confidence in Kano’s considerable potential.

“We are optimistic that with stronger collaboration, we can improve our educational sector and also tackle the challenge of power supply to boost industrial growth and economic development,” Governor Yusuf stated, highlighting the dual benefits anticipated from the deepened partnership. He further noted the significant strides made by his administration across various sectors over the past two years and appealed for EU support in realizing the state’s comprehensive development blueprint.

Ambassador Mignot, in his remarks, stated that the purpose of his visit was to identify and explore avenues for collaboration with the state government, particularly in education, the digital economy, and youth development. He revealed that his delegation would be undertaking visits to several completed and ongoing EU-funded digital economy projects within the state, in addition to engaging with relevant stakeholders on youth-focused initiatives.

This renewed partnership signals a promising future for Kano State, with the EU’s expertise and resources expected to play a crucial role in advancing the state’s educational landscape and accelerating its transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
