A joint security operation in Jigawa State has led to the arrest of seven suspected fraudsters during a coordinated raid on Kankare and Zurkuda villages in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The suspects were picked up on June 13, 2025, around 11 a.m. following intelligence reports about their involvement in widespread fraudulent activities.
Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement released to journalists on recently. He said the operation was a collaborative effort involving personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, and local vigilante groups.
“This joint effort is part of an ongoing crackdown on fraud networks in the state,” Adam said, adding that the arrests mark another major breakthrough in the fight against financial crime in the region.
The suspects have been identified as Shafi’u Mu’azu (30), Isa Musa (20), Sabi’u Ya’u (30), Sadi Adamu (36), Idris Baballe (30), Ashiru Isa (23), and Adamu Abdullahi (25). They are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.
Items recovered from the suspects include 461 counterfeit U.S. dollar notes, four point-of-sale (POS) machines, 13 Android smartphones, 29 keypad phones, six power banks, two vehicle number plates, and various documents suspected to be linked to financial fraud.
According to Adam, the confiscated materials point to a coordinated network involved in electronic fraud and the circulation of fake currencies.
This latest bust comes on the heels of recent arrests made by the state command, where several individuals were caught with large sums of counterfeit currency in the same Birnin Kudu area.
Adam emphasized the command’s commitment to stamping out financial crimes and urged residents to report suspicious activities. “We count on public cooperation in sharing credible information to help secure our communities,” he said.
He confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant as security agencies continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the integrity of Jigawa’s financial environment.
