Ibadan was on Wednesday rocked by a violent robbery during peak commercial hours, as two armed men on a motorcycle attacked a man and a woman near the Adamasingba area, making off with a bag reportedly containing a significant amount of money.
The incident took place in the Mokola area in the early hours of the day.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with journal Nigeria, the victims were walking along the roadside carrying a large black nylon bag suspected to be filled with cash when the attackers struck.
One of the robbers fired a warning shot into the air, sending bystanders into panic. He then shot the man in the stomach and the woman in the hand before grabbing the bag and fleeing the scene with his accomplice.
The entire operation lasted only a few seconds, as good Samaritans rushed the injured man to Alaafia Hospital in Mokola. He was later referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) for advanced medical care.
A bystander also reportedly suffered an injury from a stray bullet.
