The Truth About Israel: A Nation Rooted in Ancient Heritage, Not a Colonial Project

The Journal Nigeria June 25, 2025

Innocent Okoro Onoh

In recent months, a deeply misleading narrative has been trending online, aggressively promoted by enemies of Israel and the United States. These detractors claim that modern Israelis are mere migrants with no link to the biblical Israelites, thereby branding the current State of Israel as a Western outpost in the Middle East with no spiritual or ancestral legitimacy. This narrative is not only false—it is dangerous. It seeks to sever the deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties that bind the Jewish people to the land of Israel. Worse still, it is designed to delegitimize Israel, erode global sympathy, and ultimately embolden forces that wish to wipe the Jewish state off the map.

Let us address this dangerous lie head-on: modern-day Israel is not a fabrication. It is the physical and spiritual continuation of the ancient nation of Israel—a nation whose history, trials, triumphs, and promises are etched in the pages of the Bible and supported by archaeological and genealogical evidence.

To say that today’s Israelis are not descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is like saying the Igbos of Nigeria are not related to their ancestors from the 14th century. The claim is absurd. Generations may pass, people may migrate, languages may evolve—but cultural identity, religious practices, and genetic lineage endure.

Israel: The Children of Abraham Still Stand

The people of Israel trace their ancestry to the patriarchs—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—whose journeys and covenants with God form the bedrock of Judeo-Christian faith. These are not mythical figures; they are historical personalities whose descendants have kept their traditions alive across millennia, despite unimaginable persecution, exile, and dispersion.

Today, when you walk the streets of Jerusalem or sit with a Jewish family in Tel Aviv, you will find echoes of biblical customs alive in their prayers, their Sabbath observances, their festivals such as Passover and Yom Kippur, and their very language—Hebrew—revived after centuries of dormancy. These are not coincidences or modern inventions; they are living proof of a lineage that remains intact.

If continuity of culture, language, religion, and memory does not qualify a people as legitimate heirs to their heritage, then no nation on earth has a right to claim its past. The argument that Israelis are simply European or American migrants is not only historically false, it is morally repugnant. Jews have been present in the land of Israel continuously for over 3,000 years. Even during centuries of exile, they never stopped praying, weeping, and hoping to return to Zion.

The Strategy Behind the Lies

So why are these lies being spread with such venom and energy? The answer is simple: to strip Israel of its moral high ground and weaken the global sympathy that has sustained it amid endless attacks from hostile neighbors.

By falsely portraying Israel as a colonial project imposed by the West, enemies seek to justify terrorism, delegitimize its right to self-defense, and paint Iran and its terror allies as innocent victims. The ultimate goal? To fracture the support Israel receives from the global Christian and democratic community and to isolate it for destruction.

But we must not fall for this trap. Israel is not a puppet of America; it is a sovereign, ancient, democratic state. America supports Israel not just because of strategic interests, but because of shared values—faith in God, respect for human life, love of liberty, and the pursuit of peace.

Let us be clear: the real threat to global peace is not Israel. It is Iran.

Iran: A Terrorist State in Waiting

Iran, unlike Israel, has repeatedly shown itself unworthy of trust, especially concerning weapons of mass destruction. A nation that openly funds and arms terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas cannot and should not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

These are organizations that do not value human life. They launch rockets from schools and hospitals, use civilians as shields, and celebrate death over life. Iran not only funds them—it celebrates their martyrdom and calls for the annihilation of both Israel and America.

No responsible global power would sit idly while such a regime acquires the world’s most destructive weapons. Iran has vowed to wipe Israel off the map. It has repeatedly defied international agreements. Its religious hardliners preach hatred, and its revolutionary guards spread terror from Lebanon to Yemen.

During the current conflict, Iran’s fingerprints are all over the violence. Even from hiding, it continues to fund and direct missile attacks at innocent Israeli civilians. This is not a defensive posture—it is the behavior of a rogue actor. Iran’s leaders do not fear destruction; on the contrary, they welcome it, believing it will usher in their apocalyptic vision. How can such a regime be trusted with nuclear arms?

America and Israel: A Bond of Principles, Not Just Politics

Enemies of Israel often say that “Israel is America, and America is Israel” in a derogatory tone. But let us reclaim that truth proudly.

Yes, America and Israel are bound together—not by schemes of domination, but by shared beliefs in democracy, human dignity, innovation, and religious freedom. Together, they have invested heavily in education, health, science, and humanitarian aid. Israel, despite being surrounded by enemies, has built one of the most advanced societies on earth.

In contrast, Iran’s investments have gone into militias, missile technology, and propaganda. Iran suppresses dissent, jails journalists, executes gays, and denies women basic rights. Which of these two nations should the world support?

When Israel develops cutting-edge medical technologies or rushes to help disaster victims worldwide, that is not colonialism—it is compassion. When Israel allows Muslims, Christians, and Jews to pray in Jerusalem, it is not apartheid—it is pluralism. These are the values the enemies of Israel fear, because they expose the cruelty and oppression of regimes like Iran.

The True Middle Eastern Crisis

Let’s take a sobering look at the region’s real crisis. Over the last two decades, we have seen:

Libya descend into chaos after Gaddafi’s fall—not because of Israel, but because of internal dictatorship and failed Arab leadership.

Syria, where Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on his own people.

Iraq, ravaged by extremism and corruption long after Saddam Hussein was gone.

Yemen, facing famine and civil war, largely fueled by Iranian interference.

These are not Israeli-created tragedies. They are the result of failed governance, sectarian hatred, and proxy wars ignited by Iran and its allies.

Yet, through it all, Israel has remained the only stable, democratic, and technologically advanced society in the region. And for this, it is hated.

Standing Against Terrorism and Falsehoods

We must recognize what is at stake. This isn’t just about Israel or Iran—it’s about the future of civilization. If we allow terrorism and lies to go unchecked, the ripple effects will destabilize the entire world. Terrorism must not be excused as resistance. Hatred must not be disguised as justice.

The lie that modern Israelis are impostors is not only an attack on truth—it is an attack on the entire Judeo-Christian world. It’s a lie designed to fracture global unity, create doubt, and eventually justify genocide.

We must resist it with facts, with courage, and with unity. Just as the world stood together to defeat Nazi propaganda in the 1940s, we must stand today against the ideological terrorism being unleashed online.

Let the World Choose Truth

Let us not be deceived. Israel is not a colonial occupier. It is the ancient homeland of the Jewish people. Its sons and daughters still speak the language of their forefathers, worship the God of Abraham, and till the same soil their ancestors walked on. Their return in 1948 was not an invasion—it was a homecoming.

America’s bond with Israel is not an imperial project—it is a partnership of hope in a dark world. And Iran’s aggression is not misunderstood nationalism—it is extremism fueled by a disregard for life and liberty.

We must never apologize for standing with Israel. To do so is to stand with history, with justice, and with humanity.

Let the world choose wisely. Let the world choose truth.
