Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and outspoken critic of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has shocked many Nigerians by extending warm birthday wishes to Obi on his 64th birthday.
Omokri, who is widely known for his frequent criticisms of Obi and his supporters, took to his social media platforms to pray for the former Anambra State governor and commend his recent charitable activities.
In his post, Omokri wrote:
“Here’s wishing Peter Obi a happy 64th birthday. May God bless you and make you a better person. My family and I pray for your health and continued wealth. May biblical goodness and mercy be your life story henceforth, and may God reward you for your recent works of charity. Happy birthday, Peter Gregory Obi, a worthy son of Nigeria.”
The message drew widespread attention because of the history of sharp criticisms that Omokri has directed at Obi, particularly during and after the 2023 elections. Many Nigerians interpreted the gesture as a rare moment of goodwill from one of Obi’s harshest public commentators.
Peter Obi, born on July 19, 1961, is celebrated for his advocacy for good governance and philanthropy. Omokri’s tribute, despite their contrasting political views, highlights Obi’s continued influence on Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
The post has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Obi supporters appreciating the gesture while others viewed it as unexpected, given Omokri’s history of opposing Obi’s political ambitions.
