Ibadan-based sports presenter Aderonke Adesola has debunked swirling rumours suggesting that Super Falcons star striker, Asisat Oshoala, has announced her retirement from international football.
In an exclusive chat with The Journal Nigeria from Morocco, where she is currently covering the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Adesola clarified that Oshoala remains focused on her football career and the team’s immediate objectives.
“No, she didn’t announce her retirement. She’s focusing on their Mission X journey,” Adesola confirmed, referring to the Super Falcons’ ambitious quest to secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
The rumours of Oshoala’s retirement began trending on social media over the weekend, creating a stir among fans. However, the striker, who is regarded as one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers, has given no official indication of stepping down from the national team.
With the controversy now laid to rest, focus shifts squarely to the pitch as the Super Falcons intensify preparations for their crucial semi-final clash later today. The nine times champions have been in impressive form throughout the tournament, showcasing resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking flair.
Oshoala, who has been instrumental in the Falcons’ attack, is reportedly in high spirits and determined to lead the team to victory. The Nigerian camp remains optimistic, with players pledging to give their all in pursuit of yet another historic triumph.
Across Nigeria and beyond, fans have expressed confidence in the Super Falcons’ ability to progress to the final. The team’s commanding performances so far have rekindled national pride, with many eagerly anticipating another dominant display in Morocco.
As the clock ticks down to kickoff, all eyes will be on Oshoala and her teammates as they look to silence critics, overcome the semi-final hurdle, and edge closer to lifting the trophy once again.
The quarter final match against arch rivals, Bayana Bayana of South Africa, kicks off by 5pm Nigerian time.
