Honourable Adewumi Adeyemi, the member representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, has issued a passionate appeal to young Nigerians, urging them to become actively involved in the nation’s political and leadership processes.

In an exclusive interview with Journal Nigeria, Honourable Adeyemi underscored the pressing need for the youth to stop viewing politics from the sidelines and instead step into leadership roles capable of reshaping the country’s destiny.

“The future of Nigeria does not belong to a distant generation — it belongs to the young people of today who are willing to get involved, challenge the status quo, and lead with purpose and vision,” he said.

Adeyemi noted that while Nigeria is blessed with a vibrant and educated youth population, their potential continues to be underutilized, particularly in political affairs where decisions that shape the nation’s development are made. He lamented the prevalent political apathy among Nigerian youth, describing it as a missed opportunity for meaningful national transformation.

He further stated that if Nigeria must progress, the youth must embrace civic responsibility beyond social media activism and protest movements. He encouraged them to engage meaningfully in policy development, community organizing, party politics, and electoral participation.

“The strength of any democracy lies in the diversity and inclusiveness of its leadership,” he added. “For too long, we’ve allowed leadership to be recycled among a few. It’s time for young people to understand that change doesn’t come from the outside — it happens from within the system.”

Honourable Adeyemi emphasized that building a better Nigeria will require a generation that sees leadership not as a privilege but as a responsibility to serve the people. He also urged the youth to adopt a long-term perspective on national development, saying true progress demands strategic planning, sacrifice, and sustained engagement.

He concluded by calling on political parties, civil society organizations, and institutions to create platforms that mentor and empower young leaders, fostering their inclusion in all levels of decision-making.
