In a major tactical victory against insurgent forces, troops from the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), supported by the Air Component, have successfully eliminated nine Boko Haram terrorists, including two high-ranking commanders, during targeted clearance operations in Borno State.

The operations, which took place on August 21 and 22, were conducted in response to intelligence reports and successfully repelled attempted terrorist attacks on the communities of Bita and Wulfo, areas near the Cameroon border that have been repeatedly targeted by insurgents.

According to a military source , the neutralized commanders were identified as Abu Nazir, the Munzir (a local title for commander) of Juye, and Abu Fatima, the Munzir of Koloram. Both were known to be key figures in planning and executing attacks on security formations and civilian targets in the region.

The engagement turned particularly intense along the Wulgo axis, where troops encountered strong resistance and fought a fierce gun battle before overpowering the terrorists.

Recently, August 2025 Boko Haram launched a four-hour assault on Kirawa, a border community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and Cameron displacing hundreds and leaving a trail of destruction.

Report said that, numbers of Kirawa community flee to Cameroon to displace themsleve in other avoid more attack.

In the aftermath of the operation, the armed forces recovered significant weapons and equipment from the scene, including several AK-47 rifles, a large cache of ammunition, and six motorcycles, critical mobility assets often used by the insurgents to launch quick attacks in the region’s difficult terrain.

The Defence Headquarters has commended the troops for their courage and operational effectiveness, urging them to maintain the pressure on the terrorists despite the ongoing challenges posed by the environment and the asymmetric nature of the conflict.

This operation is seen as a significant setback to Boko Haram operational capabilities and a morale booster for both the military and communities affected by the more than decade long insurgency.
