In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against armed banditry and terrorism, the Katsina State Police Command has successfully apprehended a group of suspected arms traffickers in the Ingawa Local Government Area.
The suspects were intercepted while en route to Safana, a region severely affected by bandit activities.
According to a report posted by prominent security analyst Zagazola Makama on his official X handle, the operation was intelligence driven and resulted in the recovery of a cache of dangerous weapons.
Security sources confirmed two suspect were found in possession of firearms and other illicit items intended for criminal elements.

The suspects have been handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation. This step is critical to uncovering their networks, suppliers, and intended recipients in Safana and other bandit-prone areas.
A security source involved in the operation emphasized that the arrest is part of broader inter agency efforts to dismantle illegal arms supply chains fueling violence in Northwest Nigeria.
“This interception underscores our commitment to curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and enhancing security across Katsina and neighboring states,” the source stated.
Katsina State has been a hotspot for banditry, kidnapping, and rural violence. Recent operations by the police, military, and Department of State Services DSS have intensified, aiming to disrupt the logistics and armament channels of terrorist groups.

Security experts have lauded the arrest as a tactical victory. Zagazola Makama, known for his reliable conflict reporting, noted that such interdictions are vital to reducing the operational capacity of bandits and preventing attacks on vulnerable communities.
Residents of Ingawa and Safana have expressed relief and called for sustained security presence to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
