The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inward Island, will kick off on Wednesday, September 3.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said in a statement on Tuesday that government has mapped out a comprehensive traffic management plan to ease gridlock and ensure the project is delivered swiftly.
According to him, lessons from the first phase of the project prompted a full review of diversion strategies to guarantee minimal disruption during the repair works.
Osiyemi explained that vehicles from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate heading towards Oshodi or Victoria Island will generally enjoy smooth passage, except at the construction zone where traffic will be narrowed into a single lane about 50 metres before and after the bridge site.
He advised motorists heading to Oshodi to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road, inward Anthony (by Taxi Park), and proceed toward Oshodi.
For Victoria Island-bound motorists, he recommended two options:
Ojota Slip Road → Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony by Town Planning Way) → Gbagada → Third Mainland Bridge.
Ikorodu Road → Funsho Williams Avenue → Eko Bridge.
He further advised those coming from Ikeja and adjoining areas to connect Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue before continuing through Eko Bridge to Outer Marina, or to access Ikorodu Road via Anthony (by Taxi Park) for direct entry to Oshodi.
The Commissioner appealed to drivers to cooperate with traffic officers, observe lane discipline, and make use of the designated alternative routes.
