Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police of violating the Nigerian Constitution after he was summoned in connection with a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Kaduna Police Command had earlier barred the ADC from holding a scheduled meeting in the state and subsequently issued a summons to El-Rufai and seven party members. They were accused of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
The summon directed the ADC Chairman in Kaduna to produce El-Rufai and the others before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025.
Reacting at a press conference held at his private residence in Kaduna, El-Rufai condemned the police action, describing it as “a dangerous descent into lawlessness.”
“The commissioner knows what he is doing violates the Constitution. He waved a piece of paper claiming it was a court order, but it was never served. Even if such an order exists, it must be legally delivered before it can take effect. That has not happened,” El-Rufai stated.
He vowed to challenge the summons in court. “We want to see that injunction, we want to know the grounds, and we will contest them in court. This is not the end—further steps will follow,” he said.
The development has sparked political tension in Kaduna, with ADC leaders alleging harassment and suppression of opposition voices ahead of the 2027 elections.
