The Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a committee to mobilise residents for the ongoing Permanent Voters Card (PVC) registration exercise.
Governor Dauda Lawal’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mustafa Kaura, confirmed this to newsmen on Monday.
According to him, the government was worried about the poor turnout and the nonchalant attitude of many citizens towards the registration, hence the decision to set up a high-powered mobilisation committee chaired by the state’s Deputy Governor.
The committee is tasked with touring all parts of Zamfara to sensitise citizens on the importance of obtaining their PVCs. Subcommittees are also being established at every polling unit to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
Kaura explained that the state’s target is to secure more than one million new registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We cannot afford to be left behind in the ongoing registration exercise,” he said. “We are aware that some states with fewer populations are currently recording higher numbers of registered voters than Zamfara. We will do everything possible to ensure Zamfara is among the states with the highest number of voters.”
The government has urged residents to participate fully in the exercise, stressing that it is vital for the state’s political relevance in national decision-making.
