The United Nations on Monday, October 13, 2025, expressed concern that the ceasefire agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda is not being upheld.
UN Special Envoy Huang Xia said the international peace efforts between both nations were “commendable and promising,” but stressed that “the agreed ceasefire is not being respected.” He urged regional countries to “resume direct and frank dialogue and take all necessary measures to put an end to this war once and for all”.
Speaking at the UN, Zenon Ngay Mukongo, the DRC’s representative, reiterated that genuine peace hinges on specific conditions. “The cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of Rwandan troops, the end of their support for the M23, and the restoration of Congolese state authority over all occupied areas constitute non-negotiable conditions for genuine peace,” he stated.
The conflict in eastern DRC has so far claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions from their homes.
