An 18-year-old Nigerian, Mohammed Aminu Sani, has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot Licence after completing an intensive training programme at Phoenix East Aviation in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Sani successfully obtained the licence on October 22, 2025, becoming one of the youngest Nigerians to achieve the feat. He completed the entire course in just ten months, reportedly passing every stage of his flight training and check-rides without a single failure — an accomplishment that has drawn praise from aviation observers.
Born and raised in Abuja, Sani began his academic journey at Al-Hidaayah Academy, where he obtained his high school diploma before proceeding to The Regent College in Abuja. He graduated with distinction in an Economics Foundation programme before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.
During his training in the United States, Sani logged several hours flying multi-engine aircraft and recorded more than 30 hours of cross-country flight experience. His programme included advanced sessions in instrument navigation, night flying, and weather handling, all under the supervision of certified FAA instructors.
Speaking after earning his licence, Sani said becoming a pilot had always been his childhood dream. “I am grateful for the support of my family and instructors who guided me through this journey,” he said. “Flying has always fascinated me, and I am proud to have turned that passion into a reality.”
His accomplishment has been celebrated by Nigerians at home and abroad as an inspiring example of dedication and excellence. Aviation experts describe his success as a testament to the growing global recognition of young Nigerian talents in technical and professional fields.
Sani’s journey underscores the possibilities open to determined youths willing to pursue their dreams through hard work, focus, and international exposure. His achievement is expected to encourage more Nigerian students to consider careers in aviation and other specialized disciplines.
