An extraordinary funeral ceremony in Bayelsa State has captured public attention after an 85-year-old woman, Madam Afuwari Ego, popularly known as Ego Na Money, was laid to rest in a custom-made Coca-Cola bottle-shaped casket. The burial took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Emeyal 1 community, Ogbia Local Government Area.
The striking casket, designed to mimic a giant Coke bottle, quickly became the centerpiece of the event. Residents, mourners, and visitors trooped to the venue to witness the unusual sight, many pausing to take photographs and admire the craftsmanship. According to photographer Ogbara Walson Henry, who covered the ceremony, the casket sparked curiosity and conversation throughout the community, standing out as a bold and memorable tribute.
Family members revealed that the design was inspired by Madam Ego’s lifelong love for Coca-Cola. Known for choosing the drink during celebrations and everyday moments, she had become associated with the beverage among her relatives and friends. Wanting her burial to reflect her personality, the family commissioned the themed coffin to honor her identity in a meaningful and symbolic way.
Community members praised the gesture, describing the funeral not only as a moment of mourning but also as a celebration of the late matriarch’s vibrant character. The procession, complete with music, cultural displays, and a large turnout, underscored her influence and the fond memories she left behind.
