Eight persons lost their lives, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road crash that occurred on Tuesday along the Oyo–Ogbomosho Expressway, in front of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo State.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs Mary Alo, said a total of 19 persons were involved in the accident.
According to her, the crash involved multiple vehicles, though details of the vehicles and the circumstances surrounding the accident were still under investigation as of press time.
“The accident occurred on Tuesday. Nineteen people were involved. Eight people died, while four others are currently receiving treatment at the Oyo State General Hospital, Oyo,” she said.
Mrs Alo added that the corpses of the deceased victims had been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
She cautioned motorists against speeding and dangerous driving, urging them to always observe traffic regulations, especially on major highways, to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
