The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rescheduled its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings earlier fixed for mid-December.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, announced that the National Caucus meeting will now hold on Thursday, December 18, at 6 p.m., while the NEC meeting will follow on Friday, December 19, at 1 p.m. Both meetings will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The two meetings were initially scheduled for December 15 and 16, respectively.
Basiru explained that the meetings were convened in line with Articles 12.5 and 12.3 of the APC Constitution, which stipulate the procedures for calling National Caucus and NEC meetings.
Although the party did not officially state the reason for the postponement, a source within the National Working Committee (NWC) disclosed that the shift was likely influenced by the tight schedule of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who doubles as the party’s National Leader.
The National Caucus is one of the party’s most influential organs and is made up of the President, Vice President, governors elected on the party’s platform, the leadership of the National Assembly, and members of the NWC. Decisions taken at the caucus often shape the party’s political direction.
The NEC, the highest decision-making body of the party between national conventions, comprises representatives from all state chapters and key stakeholders. It deliberates on major issues affecting the party’s operations and political strategy.
